At the time of buy, the Sharper Image was the only one with a permanent filter. This was a big plus for me seeing as the older HEPA cleaners have two filters to replace, the bigger one being almost the price of the machine. This Honeywell tower has a permanent filter.

There are many claims for and against the Ionic Breeze. I am still undecided on how efficient it’s but I feel nearly the same way about my big HEPA filter. I found myself running both to control my allergies. Though I cleaned them on a regular basis and found dust on both, I can not say the air was especially different. But, shortly after turning this on in the bedroom for the 1st time, I could smell a difference. I have not had it long enough to say it is made a real dent in my allergies plus the fact that my allergies are intermittant but I am happy that I notice it.

One thing be aware of the description says there’s an independently controlled Ionizer. I expected that meant I could control it independently of the HEPA Unit. If that is the case, I have still to see how. It is not mentioned anyplace in the tiny booklet and there aren’t buttons for it. For that reason, I’m giving this four stars instead of 5. I did want to control the ionizer individually because I wanted to be able shut that off completely. There are camps on both sides arguing for an against ionizers, and many assert they make breathing worse so being able to compare with and without it somethed I wanted to attempt. If anybody else knows how to do it, then post it here. :)

Compared to the bigger Honeywell that I own, this one is more calm on each of its three settings. When I 1st read the description I did not pay attention to the oscillating function. Now, it is my favorite part of this cleaner. The oscillator is the thing that’s independent of the cleaner and when its on, the machine rotates in place, back and forth, blowing the air in an arc. I like this feature many and I think helps with cleaning a bigger area. Maybe the ionizer is attached to this feature?

This unit is considerably heavier than the alike looking Ionic Breeze. As well, the manual states it should be placed three feet from any wall or furniture. The cord isn’t that long, and putting the cord behind many furniture to get to an outlet made it almost impossible for me to reach a spot a full three feet away.

Anyway, so far I’m happy and could recommend this unit to many one who is looking for a agreement between those two types of cleaners.

The only thing I am somewhat worried about is the weird smell. Maybe I am just used to breathing dirty moldy air

Okay. The weird smell disappeared after my 1st day of full use so maybe it has something to do with the purifier being brand new. I greatly recommend this product because its tough and the base feels weighted so theres no have to worry about it moving or falling over while it oscillates! I gave my 21 inch box fan to my friend Amanda because this device blows just as much air with few sound at all, its close to being silent. And the air feels and smells clean which really makes me happy. I primarily bought this product because I hate vacuming. I really hate vacuming! I am really hoping this product rids my room of dust and cuts my vacuming down to once a week.

So remember. This machine is calm nearly silent, It circulates just as much air as my 21 inch box fan, It has a weighted base which keeps it stable as it oscillates, it has washable filters that must be allowed to dry before you re install them, It has a strange smell its 1st not many hours of use, its energy efficent and has a five year warranty on the box.The tower is black and constructed of lasting thick plastic and the base is silver. The unit is tall but has a small diameter so it ended up taking up little area on my night stand near my bed.

So for those who are allergic to everything, you can be better off with what Honeywell calls a “True Hepa.”

For me at least, I am doing well with this model, and I am relieved that I not have to purchase 70 dollar filters for my old Honeywell machine.

He’s eight years old and suffers from allergies. He woke up every morning sneezing, and with a stuffy nose. I looked for an alternative to giving him allergy medication every day. We keep it on the desk, right beside his bed. It is very calm and it helped his allergies many. After about a month of constant use on the medium setting, I vacuumed the filter. It was filty. I was impressed with how much dust it pulled from the air.

This little man does exactly what it says and works like a charm.

Here’s why I bought it. I wanted an air cleaner for a medium to small sized room where I keep my cat’s litter box. Usually, it does not smell, but about the day it is time to change it, I can smell it. Now, I do not want to smell it ever, though I keep my kitty box schedule in tact. Nevertheless this air cleaner is so calm on Whisper Mode that I literally can not hear it. I put it in my roommate’s bedroom, just to see if she realized it was in there, before moving it to its last destination. She had no clue.

The model has three speeds, but the Whisper Mode is good for uninterrupted daily use. Sure, you may be able to turn it up, and you will hear it is low whirrrrrr, but that is to be projected.

Another reason I bought it’s that it’s a HEPA quality cleaner. But I do not have to purchase substitute filters ever. This one has a “permanent” filter, which I did not know existed. To clean it, it says about once every six months to just use your hose and brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner and suck it out. Really? That is awesome! Why do not ALL HEPA filters do this. That feels like such a waste. I am not allergic to anything, but my function for this is to keep the area near my kitty box smelling like air, and not horrid ammonia. Cats are so gorgeous, but like newborn babies, they sure can create many of the foulest smells!


So: I’m in love with this baby. Thanks Hamilton Beach!

Intended for rooms up to 85 square feet in size, Honeywell’s Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter offers a convenient tabletop style that is powerful, calm, and easy to use. The three stage filtration system combines a washable pre filter, a permanent HEPA type filter, and an optional ionizer to catch up to 99 percent of mold spores, pollen, pet dander, smoke, and dust for cleaner, healthier air. The illuminated control panel on top offers three cleaning power selections also as ionizer activation, and an display light advises when the major filter needs cleaning.The air purifier comes with a nightlight for soft illumination and measures ten inches by six inches by eleven inches. It’s supported by a three year restricted warranty.

This air purifier is calm and caused by its compact size, may be placed off the floor on a bookcase, dresser top or top counter which makes it best for space saving and placement. I do not especially like the sound from air filters and they have a tendency to keep me up.

After spending many dollars on substitute filters and new air cleaners when the filter is not made or easily available, this is a welcome addition with a permanent cleanable filter. I bought two of these, one for my bedroom and one for the living room. Set on low all of the time, it’s great as it just sounds like a little white sound and isn’t noticable most of the time. The optional ionic on and off switch, night light, also as the automated light showing that the filter should be cleaned is a BONUS besides the low price. So far, I’m enjoying cleaner air in an old dusty house with three cats and two dogs.

I bought the Sharper Image ionic breeze for the bathroom and find it hard to clean and hope that when I have to clean this filter. Good value for the money.

This unit has three speeds. Another switch to turn on or off the ionizer.

The lowest speed can push enough air comparable to Sharper Image’s quick, without much sound. If nobody talks in the room, you may be able to still notice the sound. But if anybody talks or the TV is on, then you could not noticed the sound, in a 8×10 room. Center and quick push 20 50 times more air than a Sharper pictures ionizer purifiers. I wish it has a feature to push a button to increase the air flow to quick for 15 minutes, then fall back to slowest speed.

For the price of a tank of gasoline, and free shipping from Amazon, purchasing this is no brainer..

As another reviewer mentoned, it’s a little noisey on high, but the second setting (which looks powerful enough for my needs) has a nice hum that acts as white noice. It has a nice stable design.Because it sets square and low, my cats have not been tempted to attempt to push it over (some air purifiers looks a little too much like cat scratching posts). Information on how to use and clean are easy to follow. I am not sure what the ionizer is supposed to do so I have not used that feature, but so far I seem to be sleeping better with it running than I was without it, so I’m presuming it’s doing ts job. No complaints so far.
